Meet The Owner

Damon Jackson is the founder of Shear Essence Pet. He’s a Charlotte transplant, originally from Pennsylvania.

His love for furry and not so furry friends runs deep, due to growing up in a household some classified as a mini zoo. Snakes, cats, dogs, birds and even an alligator! 

Having so many living creatures in the house required care and attention. Being the oldest of five children, this taught Damon the importance of responsibility and value of compassion. His parents often fostered many young and displaced animals and taught their children how to care for them, which included the art of grooming.

After various career successes as a store manager at major retailers and unforeseen obstacles, Damon went back to school to earn his bachelor’s degree from Strayer University.

Upon graduation, Damon tried his hand as a recruiter at a well-known staffing agency. While Damon excelled in the role, he longed for something more meaningful. The passion for the work just wasn't there. He found that he’d enjoyed spending time with his furry friends at home, researching the latest trends in grooming or nutritional options, or spending an afternoon at the dog park with his own beloved schnauzer Koko.

The same excitement and passion Damon felt waking up to Koko licking his face for her morning walk, is the same passion he desired in his career. There’s nothing like a furry friend ready for a morning walk to get you out of bed every morning! This is when he realized it was time to seriously pursue his hobby and service the Charlotte area. That’s when Shear Essence Pet was birthed.

Extending compassion and patience to train, nurture and groom his own furry friends and the furry friends within his network is where he found real excitement. Damon found his calling in something that had always been a part of his life; caring for, nurturing and grooming furry friends.

When Damon isn’t busy welcoming furry friends into the Shear Essence Pet family, he enjoys cooking, Disney classics and catching a breeze at the local dog parks.
